Tragedy keeps repeating itself

Soup du jour! Often, we see that listed on the menu — AKA, soup of the day. Many may think it’s something new, something different. Did we ever think that it is the same old soup, just reheated? It is not a new dish.

So it is with the murder of the 25-year-old black man, Ahmaud Arbery. The murder of this Georgian black man has the same narrative as the murder of Trayvon Martin. Arbery was jogging when approached by strangers with no police uniform. Martin was walking when approached by a stranger with no police uniform. No crime had been committed by either victim that could be substantiated as the cause of their action. In other words, there was no “probable cause.”

All the culprits physically challenged their victims resulting in a losing battle and resorted to the unfair advantage of a firearm. Justice was not rendered in both cases from the very onset in that the culprits had connections. “But for” the action of Willie Bryan in videoing the blatant murder, justice still would have been delayed and thus denied. As for Bryan knowing the culprits or not, the behavior he displayed was the game changer that at least started the wheels of justice turning. That should count for something, in fact a lot.

This cruel narrative keeps playing out causing outcry not just from blacks — many whites have voiced their opinion of this evil. None of us can honestly say this repetitive narrative is surprising, albeit, still sad.
