Summer youth jobs program taking applications
MIDDLETOWN — The Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce has opened applications for its 2020 Middletown Summer Youth Employment Program.
Every year since 2006, the chamber has placed city students into constructive summer employment through the program, according to a press release. The chamber has the capacity, through its dynamic membership, to place program participants into summer employment in a wide variety of professional fields, it said.
Program host sites come from the public sector, nonprofit sector, and most notably, the private sector. The program is designed to provide employment opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth between 14 and 21, the release said.
“This program teaches our young people not only the fundamentals of employment, such as getting to work on time and ready to contribute, but also the pride that comes with putting in a solid work week and receiving a paycheck that was earned through hard and honest work,” President Larry McHugh said in a prepared statement.
“We are proud of this important local workforce development program, and look forward to another successful year,” he added.
In addition to the completed application, required documentation includes: a birth certificate, Social Security card, document(s) that establish identity, a school-issued document (applicants under 18), and proof of family income to establish eligibility. Details are included in the application.
The chamber building is closed to the public, and applications are only being accepted by mail or email at Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Attention: Middletown Summer Youth Employment Program, 393 Main St., Middletown, CT; and lorenzo@middlesexchamber.com.
