WESU PROGRAM BRINGING MUSIC, TALKS TO PUBLIC
MIDDLETOWN — Wesleyan’s WESU, 88.1 FM, is bringing several programs to the airwaves this week.
The first is NetBlipz Episode Two: Wesleyan University Jazz Ensemble, at 4 p.m. Thursday.
NetBlipz puts a spotlight on the skills and imagination of the Wesleyan Music Department, and will feature recordings by members of the Wesleyan University Jazz Ensemble, hosted by Director Noah Baerman. This program will also be available to stream from WESU's show archives for two weeks after the broadcast.
Thursday’s concert features Mason Johnson '23 on tenor saxophone, Luke Morrill '23 on guitar, Joe McKidd '22 on guitar, Jacob Zilversmit '22 on vibraphone, Nicholas Serrambana (an undergraduate student at Yale) on double bass, and Bram Silbert '23 on drums.
Performances will include "Roadlife" by James Williams, "The Judge" by Jessica Williams, "Hope Street" by Tom Harrell, "Ghosts" by Albert Ayler, "Land of the Lonely" by McCoy Tyner, and "Basic Birks" by Jimmy Heath. The program is dedicated to the memories of all the jazz giants we’ve lost in 2020, including Jimmy Heath and McCoy Tyner.
The Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble were scheduled to perform a concert April 17 at the start of the 19th annual Wesleyan Jazz Orchestra Weekend, but that event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Friday, WESU will present Party in the Bardo: Conversations with Laurie Anderson, Episode One, at 4 p.m. June 5.
Writer, director, visual artist, and vocalist Laurie Anderson premieres her new radio show, “Party in the Bardo: Conversations with Laurie Anderson,” on WESU Middletown 88.1FM on her 73rd birthday. Each program will be available to stream from WESU's show archives for two weeks following the initial broadcast.
