AREA PEOPLE OF NOTE

-

⏩ The Daytime Gardeners recently worked with members of Peter’s Rock Association to concentrate on removal of invasive weeds at the entrance area of the park. Invasive weeds are not native to the area and easily grow out of control. They can spread so quickly that the native plants are crowded out and die off. The insects and diseases in the native lands of these weeds are often absent or present in low numbers in their new environment, so there is little to control their growth, short of intervention by landowners. Two invasive weeds were the focus of the weeding project: mugwort and garlic mustard. Eradicating invasive weeds is a 2-year project of the Federated Garden Clubs of CT, Inc. President Arlene Field, named the project “Out with Invasives, In with Natives”. Contact the Daytime Gardeners of North Haven at 203-2391557 if you have questions or want to assist with this effort.
