MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — SUNY Morrisville recently announced that Dylan Laplace of Chester was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester. Laplace is majoring in landscape design and management. To be noted, a student must achieve a 3.0 to 3.99 grade-point average for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.
St. Lawrence University
CANTON, N.Y. — St. Lawrence University welcomed new students to the Class of 2024, including Natalie Davis of Middlefield and Eric Vilcheck of Chester. The following Middlesex County residents received bachelor’s degrees in May: Luke Bourne of Middletown, Lucy Burr of Ivoryton, Hannah Halsey of Essex, Simona Mazzotta of Middletown.
Coastal Carolina University
CONWAY, S.C. — Kenneth Vaughan, a marine science major from Middletown, graduated from Coastal Carolina University in summer 2020.
University of Saint Joseph
WEST HARTFORD — Alana Farnsworth of Durham, a student at the University of Saint Joseph, was named to the school’s summer 2020 dean’s list.
Lasell University
NEWTON, Mass. — More than 50 second-year students at Lasell University are enrolled in the Lasell Works initiative. The sophomore year experience includes a year of fully online learning, paired with professional work experience. Mylena Cruz of Westbrook, Nicholas Muratori of Clinton, and Jack Molesky of Old Saybrook, are among those students.
Eastern Connecticut State University
WILLIMANTIC — Five Eastern Connecticut State University students were hired as student leaders for the Center of Community Engagement for the fall semester. The CCE coordinates Eastern’s volunteer efforts in community service opportunities across Willimantic.
One of the student leaders is Jack Irvine, a senior majoring in liberal studies from Cromwell. Irvine coordinates the CCE programs for virtual tutoring and the elementary video project.
Due to the pandemic, volunteer opportunities for Eastern students during the fall semester are limited, with most being moved to virtual programs. These include virtual meetings, tutoring and video production projects for elementary school students. CCE has spent the summer planning on how to provide services to the community through collaboration with student leaders, volunteers and staff.
Hofstra University
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Hofstra University students earned their undergraduate, graduate or law degrees this spring and summer. Due to the pandemic, virtual commencement ceremonies were held Aug. 23.
The following local residents were among them: Tiana Chrans of Clinton, bachelor of arts in criminology and sociology; Kristen Dansereau of Cromwell, bachelor of business administration in entrepreneurship and management; Sarah Dowd of Old Saybrook, bachelor of arts in anthropology and global studies; Rachel Glasser of East Hampton, bachelor of science in biochemistry; Elijah Pemberton of Cromwell, bachelor of business administration in management; Angela Rienzo of Clinton, bachelor of science in geology and geographic information systems.
