CVS hiring 15,000 to help administer COVID, flu shots

- By Tara O’Neill

With flu season in full swing and the threat of a second wave of COVID-19 cases on the horizon, CVS Health announced Monday it will hire 15,000 new employees across the country

These new positions are some of the 50,000 workers CVS Health announced it would hire in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the company said.

More than 10,000 of these jobs are for part- and full-time licensed pharmacy technicians at CVS Pharmacy locations. These are jobs the company said it is looking to fill as soon as possible, with many of them being temporary with the possibility of becoming permanent.

CVS Health said it is also advocating for an “expanded scope of practice” that would permit trained pharmacy techs to administer coronavirus vaccinations under the supervision of a pharmacist who is immunization certified.

“Additional team members typically are needed every flu season,” Lisa Bisaccia, chief human resources officer at CVS Health, said in a statement. “However, we’re estimating a much greater need for trained pharmacy technicians this year given the continued presence of COVID-19 in our communities.”

As the company works to recruit potential employees, beyond the pharmacy tech jobs, other on-site roles include pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, member benefit care professionals and distribution center employees.

The company is also recruiting for several thousand work-from-home customer service representative positions across the country.

“By leveraging CVS Health’s innovation and technology, we can help get more Americans back to work from the convenience of their own homes, where they can contribute to the company’s ongoing efforts to help solve the country’s health care challenges,” Jeffrey Lackey, vice president of talent acquisition at CVS Health, said in a statement.
