Chafee has plan for transportation
After 60 years, and many rejected plans and false starts, in the next year, the Connecticut Department of Transportation will once again consider how to reconfigure Route 9, especially as it moves traffic through Middletown and connects traffic with routes 66 and 17.
The change will be consequential, and will have significant effects on Middletown, and particularly Main Street. That’s why I’ll be voting for Democratic candidate Brandon Chafee to represent Middletown as a representative from the 33rd House District.
Chaffee understands the DOT must seriously consider Middletown, and not simply focus on the through-traffic traveling on Route 9. The change will be a once-in- a-lifetime project, and its essential that we get it right. Brandon will push the DOT to make sure the solution is the correct one, and ensure that Middletown has a voice in the changes.
What’s more, Brandon understands the future of transportation is not one where we can afford to concentrate solely on vehicles that foul our environment with fossil fuel. The plan for future transportation must consider mass transit, pedestrian traffic, bikes, autonomous vehicles and vehicles powered by electricity.
In Middletown, we need good roads, bike lanes, pedestrian walkways throughout town, and Brandon is determined to help find the funding to make that transportation future possible.
