How to vote on Election Day or by absentee ballot

- By Press Staff

MIDDLETOWN — Voting for Middlefield and Rockfall residents on Election Day, Nov. 3, will be held at Memorial School, 124 Hubbard St. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To ensure social distancing at this general election, the Registrars of Voters office has designated the school as the polling place, according to a press release. Registrars have received a dispensation from the Office of the Secretary of the State to hold the general election at Memorial School rather than the Middlefield Community Center, where the presidential preference primary was held.

“Use of Memorial School will provide more space for adequate social distancing during this pandemic so that voters can be assured of a safe polling venue on Election Day,” First Selectman

Edward Bailey said in a prepared statement. “Our registrars of voters have worked hard to put together a very responsible and safe voting plan that protects the voter on Election Day, which has the approval of the Secretary of the State’s Office.”

Those needing to register to vote Nov. 3 can do so at the community center, 405 Main St.

Voters who choose to vote by absentee ballot might consider marking their ballots early by mailing or depositing them in the drop box outside the Town Hall, 393 Jackson Hill Road.

Information can be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office at 860-3497116.

Voters are reminded that masks and social distancing are required at the polls and the EDR location. Each voter will be offered a personal protection packet containing a mask, gloves and pen.
