PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CJ Lewis, Boston College: Junior receiver from Hamden had touchdown receptions of 7 and 5 yards in the first quarter to lead Boston College to 48-27 win over Georgia Tech. Lewis finished with 58 yards on four catches, giving him 13 receptions, 219 yards and three touchdowns in the first six games of the season. Boston College is off to a 4-2 start heading into Saturday’s showdown at No. 1 Clemson. The noon game will air on ABC.

COLLINS CONNECTS

New Canaan’s Mike Collins never threw more than two touchdown passes in 11 games at TCU but in his Rice debut, Collins passed for 242 yards and four touchdowns in an overtime loss to Middle Tennessee State. Collins threw for 139 yards in the fourth quarter, including a 48-yard completion to Austin Trammell on a 4thand-24 play. The two hooked up for a 20-yard score on the next play and then a two-point conversion pass to give Rice a 34-31 lead with 34 seconds left, but Crews Holt forced overtime with a 48-yard field goal before Asher O’Hara’s 14-yard run gave Middle Tennessee the victory.

BOTHROYD MAKES AN IMPACT

Rondell Bothroyd, who graduated from E.O. Smith, finished with four tackles and shared a tackle for a loss in Wake Forest’s 23-16 win over Virginia Tech The sophomore defensive lineman missed the first three games of the season and Wake Forest has won both of the games since Bothroyd returned. The Demon Deacons are 12-6 over the last three seasons when Bothroyd plays and 6-7 when he isn’t on the field.
