2020-21 UCONN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROSTER

- — Doug Bonjour

A closer look a this year’s Huskies:

2 Autumn Chassion, Fr., G, 5-8: Louisiana product turned down multiple lowlevel Division I offers to join the team as a walk-on. Three-time high school state champion.

3 Aaliyah Edwards, Fr., F, 6-3: Versatile forward who has been compared to UConn great Napheesa Collier. Plays with a motor that won’t quit. Debuted with the Canadian national team at the 2019 FIBA AmeriCup and held her own against the likes of Tina Charles, Stefanie Dolson and Sylvia Fowles.

5 Paige Bueckers, Fr., G, 5-11: Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year is a generational prospect, the most hyped player to come out of high school in years. An elite ball-handler and passer. A ready-made replacement at point guard for Crystal Dangerfield. Ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2020.

10 Nika Muhl, Fr., G, 5-10: Croatian prospect who, like Edwards, has impressed coaches with her energy and physicality. Another quality

passer. Figures to provide depth in an already deep backcourt.

11 Mir McLean, Fr., F, 5-11: Five-star talent has the athleticism to chip in along the wing as a backup.

13 Christyn Williams, Jr., G, 5-11: Former No. 1 recruit has been a complementary scorer, but needs to take the next step in her evolution as a top-flight guard and become the Huskies’ primary offensive threat. Consistency and efficiency will be key, something she admittedly struggled with in 2019-20. Big East Preseason Player of the Year.

20 Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Jr., F, 6-5: Solid defender and rim-protector averaged 8.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks last season, but more importantly, showed an ability to stay on the floor despite foul trouble.

22 Evina Westbrook, Jr., G, 6-1: Playmaking guard sat out last season after transferring from Tennessee. Will be a key piece, assuming her knee is healthy.

24 Anna Makurat, Soph., G, 6-2: Poland native bounced between the bench

and starting lineup, but settled in down the stretch. Shot 51 percent from the floor over her final eight games. Should be more comfortable in Year 2.

32 Piath Gabriel, Fr., F, 6-5: Has size, which the Huskies could use, but is raw. A project type who may need time to develop.

44 Aubrey Griffin, Soph., G, 6-1: Dynamic athlete, a Swiss army knife off the bench. Finished second on the team in steals as a freshman with 48.
