Liz Callaway presents ‘Home for the Holidays’

WATERBURY — Tony nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway will perform a mix of holiday favorites and Broadway show tunes, share stories about the holidays and her career, and offer a preview of music from her upcoming holiday album, “Comfort and Joy – An Acoustic Christmas.”

The live online concert will also include a special behind-the-scenes interview with the artist and a post-show Q&A following the premiere Dec. 11.

Callaway made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along,” received a Tony Award nomination for her performanc­e in Baby, and for five years, won acclaim as Grizabella in :Cats.” She also starred in the original casts of “Miss Saigon,” “The Three Musketeers” and “The Look of Love.”

She sang the Academy Award-nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the animated feature Anastasia, Other film work includes Jasmine in the two Aladdin sequels, The Swan Princess and The Rewrite with Hugh Grant. Callaway received an Emmy Award for hosting Ready to Go, a daily, live children’s program on CBS in Boston. Other TV credits include In Performanc­e at the White House, Inside the Actor’s Studio: Stephen Sondheim and The David Letterman Show.

Her extensive concert and symphony career has included appearance­s in London, Paris, Iceland, Vietnam, Australia, China and nearly every major city in the U.S. She performs regularly with her sister Ann Hampton Callaway, as well as composer Stephen Schwartz, and has had the great pleasure of singing with Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams and Johnny Mathis.

This month, the theater is also offering holiday-themed activities for families. All are free and open to the public.

Toy Drive: Working in partnershi­p with New Opportunit­ies Inc., the theater is collecting new, unwrapped toys for the agency’s client families. Donations may be made, with curbside pickup, Dec. 8 and 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The toy drive ends Dec. 12; donations that day will be accepted at 2 p.m.

Letters to Santa: Children can send a letter to Santa via the North Pole’s Palace Post Office Branch. Letters will be accepted by email to Meg Luddy, the Palace Post Master at luddy@palacethea­terct.org, with “Letter to Santa” in the subject line. Meg will reply the letter has been received and that she will pass it on to Santa Claus. Letters will also be accepted by traditiona­l mail to: Santa c/o Palace Theater, 100 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06702 or letters may be dropped off at the Santa Mailbox located inside the Palace during Box Office hours. All letters must be received by Dec. 15 to ensure the child gets a reply back from Santa before his trip on Christmas Eve.

Family Holiday Photos: Families can take a holiday photo at the Palace Theater set against the beautiful backdrop of the Palace Theater’s decorated Grand Foyer. Garlands and wreaths will adorn the marble staircases with the large Christmas Tree standing proudly in the center of the room. Bring your own profession­al camera or use your cellphone to capture a unique holiday photo.

Reservatio­ns are required. Limited time slots are available from Dec. 10-22. To reserve, call Deirdre Patterson 203-346-2011, during Box Office hours. No walk-ins allowed. While this activity is free, donations to either the Palace Theater’s Annual Fund or the Toy Drive are appreciate­d.
