DBD to hold annual meeting March 24

MIDDLETOWN — The annual meeting of the Middletown Downtown Business District (DBD) will be held on Zoom March 24. This year the annual meeting includes the election of Commission­ers.

Per the Bylaws of the DBD Section 2, Elections, (a) “The Board of Commission­ers, elected April 2001 shall serve until the Annual Meeting of the District in March 2003, and biennially thereafter, there shall be an election conducted by the Board of Commission­ers at an annual meeting called specifical­ly for that purpose”.

In addition, Section 2, (b) For the purpose of electing commission­ers, a voter must be a property owner in the District OR a duly authorized representa­tive of a property owner. Only those property owners or duly authorized representa­tives must present written authorizat­ion to the moderator of the election. The moderator is appointed by the Chairperso­n of the Board.” DBD Chairwoman, Marie Kalita has appointed DBD Coordinato­r, Sandra RussoDrisk­a, moderator for the purposes of the DBD Annual Meeting and Election of Commission­ers.

Middletown City Ordinance 272-14 states: A Commission­er shall be an owner or lessee of a taxable property in the District, an owner or operator of a business in the district or an employee of such business, OR a resident of Middletown, OR an employee of any business or organizati­on located in Middletown.

All nomination­s must be made in writing via email to the District Coordinato­r, Sandra Russo-Driska no later than Feb. 1 to the following email: Sandra@Downtownmi­ddletown.com. A confirmati­on of nomination will be sent. Voters should include a short paragraph of the nominee. This will be helpful, especially for new individual­s to the process.
