KEEP AN EYE ON

Action Jackson: Freshman Andre Jackson returns after missing six weeks with a broken wrist. He didn’t do a whole lot in his first four games this season, but the 6-foot-7 forward was a national top-50 recruit who can add a lot.

“He’s a real talent and I’ve got to play him, and let him play through some things,” UConn coach Dan Hurley said. “It’s a fine line, though, because you are trying to win against veteran teams. Having two freshmen on the court in him and Adama (Sanogo) is a little bit scary against a team that’s as veteran as these guys. But I’ve got to play him.”

Hurley added that Jackson has had about five days of live practice, but will likely play in three, four-minute spurts.

Mamu issues: Seton Hall’s Sandro Mamukelashvili (better known as “Mamu”) is one of the top players in the Big East, among the league leaders in scoring, rebounding and assists. A 6-foot-11 forward, he’s versatile and mobile, with great footwork, and can hit from 3. Hurley said he reminds him of Troy Murphy, the former Notre Dame star whom Hurley tried to recruit to Rutgers when Hurley was an assistant there.

“Unbelievable offensive skill set,” Hurley said of Mamu. “The most skilled and talented offensive player that we’ve seen this year, by far, and that I’ve seen, personally, since I’ve been here. Center size with point guard skills, scores it. He’s a nightmare.”

Isaiah Whaley is likely to draw the bulk of the defensive assignment on Mamu.

Road warriors: Seton Hall is second in the Big East with four victories on the road in league play. Dating back to last season, the Pirates have won 11 of their last 15 road contests.
