Crashing the boards: South Carolina has been formidable on the glass this season, ranking first in the country in defensive rebounding (32.7 per game), fifth in offensive rebounding (17.6) and third in overall rebounding (50.3). The Gamecocks are also tops in blocks (7.4).

Sophomore center Aliyah Boston has been a big part of that success. The preseason Associated Press All-American — and former UConn target — is averaging a team-high 11.3 boards and 2.9 blocks.

“She’s playing at a real, real high level right now,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “I don’t see anybody that has played that position better than she has since the season started, that’s for sure.”

Offense aplenty: Auriemma called this the biggest defensive test to date for the Huskies. South Carolina is 11th in scoring (82.4), with four starters averaging double figures.

The keys, he said, will be defending the Gamecocks off the dribble and limiting their 3-point opportunities — both areas in which they struggled in the loss to Arkansas.

“We have to do a better job in at least one of those things (Monday) if we want to have a chance to win,” Auriemma said.

‘Banged up’: Aaliyah Edwards confirmed she is good to go after getting hit in the mouth in Friday’s win at Marquette. Aubrey Griffin, who was held out because of a sore knee, is expected to be available as well, according to Auriemma.

“They’re all banged up a little bit,” Auriemma said. “Paige is still struggling with the ankle that she hurt in the Tennessee game, Nika’s ankle is not 100%, (Evina Westbrook’s) knees are not 100%. … It’s a little bit of everything, and Christyn had a little bit of a sprained ankle.

“There’s been a lot of nagging things, and they’re still there. They’re not going away. But this time of the year, that’s pretty much everybody. Everybody in college basketball is probably lamenting about the same things.”

History lesson: After eight consecutive double-digit losses to begin the series, South Carolina finally got the better of UConn last year, beating the Huskies 70-52 at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks were ranked No. 1 at the time, and maintained that position through the final poll.
