KEEP AN EYE ON

Game-shape James: UConn leading scorer James Bouknight, who has played just two games since returning from an elbow injury that sidelined him for six weeks, was gassed by the end of his 36 minutes against Villanova on Saturday.

Coach Dan Hurley is hoping to get him about 30-32 minutes of run on Tuesday night as he works his way back to game shape — perhaps in shorter spurts.

“You can run on a treadmill and do conditioning with a strength coach all you want,” Hurley noted, “but the stress of game play, and specifically the stress of that particular game play, with how challenging a game vs. a team like Villanova is, physically and mentally, it drained him pretty good. He’ll get in better shape, and then he’ll also settle in better as a player.”

Rebound that basketball: Georgetown leads the Big East and is seventh in the nation in rebounding at 41.2 per game. The Hoyas’ rebounding margin of plus-6.2 also leads the Big East, a full two rebounds per game better than second-place UConn. In league play only, Georgetown tops the Big East with 39.4 boards per contest and a plus-5.5 margin (UConn is again second at plus-2.4).

Jamorko Pickett, a 6-foot-9 senior, leads the way with 8.4 boards per game, followed closely by Qudus Wahab, a former UConn recruiting target, at 8.1.

Pickett had 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting along with seven rebounds in the Hoyas’ 81-75 upset over Seton Hall on Saturday.

Hoya-Husky history lesson: Georgetown owns a 36-30 alltime advantage in the series, which date back to Dec. 22, 1958 (a UConn win). The Hoyas dominated the rivalry through the early years of the Big East, winning 13 straight from 1982-89 and 22 of 26 from 1982-1993. The Huskies dominated the next 12 years, winning 18 of 20 between 1994 and 2006.

Georgetown won the last matchup as Big East foes, 79-78 in a double-overtime classic on Feb. 27, 2013. The teams split a pair of non-conference bouts in recent years — UConn winning in Hartford on Jan. 23, 2016, the Hoyas winning in D.C. on Jan. 14, 2017.
