ART LEAGUE EXHIBIT, SALE RECEPTION IS FRIDAY
The show runs through Oct. 2
The Guilford Art League, which promotes an interest in the arts and provides support for regional artists, will give artists and their work three upcoming weeks in the spotlight.
The organization’s 73rd annual Juried Exhibit & Sale will run from Monday to Oct. 2 in the Mill Gallery at the center, 411 Church St.
The gallery and shop are open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in several categories at the opening reception Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Entries have been open
to Connecticut artists and a wide range of media, including acrylics, collage, mixed media, oils, watercolor, pastels, sculpture, printmaking and photography, according to a press release. It is juried by Connecticut artist Lenny Moskowiz.
The Guilford Art League, which supports artists of all ages, abilities, mediums and styles, and organizes many exhibitions and social events each year, has more than 200 members from all over Connecticut, the news release said.
Its “beginnings were
humble,” according to the group’s website, guilfordartleague.org. “In 1947, a group of local artists exhibited their artwork hanging from a clothesline strung across the Guilford Green. Today, the League
continues to promote the visual arts.”
The opportunities for members to exhibit their work and meet fellow artists include two member shows each year, the spring Carry-in Supper with a speaker, participation in the summer expo on the Guilford Green, and quarterly exhibitions in the Guilford Community Center.
Details on membership can be found at the website.
The group’s biggest event of the year is the juried show, which is usually “heavily attended,” an announcement about the show said. Both this exhibit and the expo were canceled last year, but the league finds 2021 “is proving to be a better year than the last — creatively, socially, and health-wise,” its website said.
