Joan Barnes

January 5, 1952 - September 9, 2021

Joan Patricia Barnes, 69, of Yalesville, loving wife of Roger Barnes, passed away September 9, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.

She was born in New Haven on January 5, 1952 daughter of the late Allie and Mary (Lynch) Shippy.

An avid New York Yankees fan, she would never miss watching a game with her beloved husband, Roger. She would put a whammy on the opposing team making everyone watching with her laugh. She loved old movies on TMC, her dog Sophia; she took great pride in her house plants, filling her home with greenery. She loved to have family dinner every Sunday and kept the tradition going as long as she could. Most of all she adored her grandchildren Amanda and Brenden.

In addition to her husband, Roger, she is survived by her son, Derek Barnes of Wallingford; her daughter, Jennifer Lohmann and her partner Andrew Palladino of Johnson, Vermont; her brothers, Richard Shippy, Buddy (Mary Ann) Shippy; her sisters, Deborah (John) Brandt, Donna MacNeil all of West Haven; her grandchildren, Amanda and Brenden Lohmann of Meriden; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Nancy Kranzl; her brothers Allie, Jack, and Lawrence Shippy.

The family would like to thank the staff of Quinnipiac Valley Center, especially Christy Maginnis, for their excellent care.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford. Gifts in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
