Essex student awarded scholarship
ESSEX — Nathan Hill of Essex has been named as the 2021 recipient of the Elizabeth Barnes Callender and Mary Francis Barnes Memorial Scholarship by the Essex Foundation Board of Directors. The $3,000 scholarship award is presented to honor the bequest and memory of the late “Diz” Callender and her sister Mary.
Hill, who graduated from Valley Regional High School in Deep River in June, is enrolled in the University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources.
The scholarship is available each year to a local high school graduating senior or graduate or Essex resident pursuing studies related to land conservation and preservation at a two- or four-year college, technical or graduate school, or taking accredited courses in biology, botany, agronomy, ecology, horticulture, floriculture, forestry, landscape design or environmental science.

GUILFORD — The Shoreline Arts Alliance has begun accepting submissions from Connecticut artists to a fall version of the annual IMAGES Photography Exhibition & Competition, now in its 40th year. The show will be hosted in-person in the Sill House Gallery at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, and will be made available virtually in an online gallery on the website at shorelinearts.org.
Submissions will be accepted digitally via an application on the website which will be live until midnight Oct. 3. Full submission guidelines are available at the site.
