Rockfall Foundation to host repair cafe, swap meet
MIDDLETOWN — The Rockfall Foundation will be hosting a repair clinic for the community Oct. 16 at the deKoven House Community Center.
It will be conducted in conjunction with the city of Middletown recycling and public works departments, as well as the RiverCOG, at the deKoven building at 16 Washington St.
Skilled volunteers will help fix, and teach people how to fix things — saving them money and keeping items working and out of the garbage, according to a press release. Tool use and help is free. Participants are responsible for obtaining any necessary replacement parts.
Repairs will be made to electronics and electrical items, jewelry, sewing/mending, knife sharpening (in limited quantities), small appliances (no TVs or large appliances), woodwork/furniture, laptops, bicycles, smartphones and tablets, lamps and more.
Coffee and snacks will be served, and people are asked to bring a travel mug.
Those with skills may volunteer by calling 860-347-0340 or emailing liz@rockfallfoundation.org.
Swap event
There will also be a swap area, the news release said. Collected will be craft and sewing supplies, Halloween costumes and decorations, small home decor, fabric, small toys, and gently used plastic bags for the Amazing Grace Food Pantry.
Item drop-off is between 10 and 11:30 a.m. and the swap will be held from noon to 3 p.m. All items must be in good, usable condition. No heavy or large items will be taken.
People can pick up their leftover items at 2:30 p.m., or leave them to be donated. For information, email Kim O’Rourke at kim.orourke@middletownct.gov.
