Rose V. Acabbo

Rose V. “Rosie” “Butch” Acabbo age 86, of West Haven, passed away on January 9, 2022. For 53 years she was the devoted wife of the late Anthony J. Acabbo. Rose was born in New Haven, daughter of the late John “Googie” and Catherine “Katie” Gambardella Ventura. She is survived by her loving children, Christopher Acabbo of West Haven and Lisa Acabbo Cole of Florida, her adoring grandchildren Christopher Acabbo, McKenna Cole and Gianna Acabbo, her sisters Frances Civitello of West Haven, Catherine Ferrie of Florida and her brother Frederick Ventura of West Haven and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Annie Sampietro, Annette Lovegrove and Andrew Ventura.

Rose had a knack for numbers and for many years was employed as a cashier for Voloshin Cadillac and George Harte Nissan. She was a devote parishioner of the former St. Paul’s Church, West Haven. Rose enjoyed going to the casino with her sister Annette and you could always find the two celebrating their winnings or often their losings afterwards at Lorenzo’s, App’s or Biagetti’s. She enjoyed spending time with her sister Frances, walking along the West

Haven Shore. Rose is best known for making her Sunday sauce with Tony and her Pizzagaina that she would round us all up to help with, and would purposely make on Good Friday so that we couldn’t eat it. She spent endless hours on her many trays of Christmas cookies, that she would pass out to everyone.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Victory Church on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
