Yale routs Cornell in Ivy League opener

NEW HAVEN — Isaiah Kelly scored 18 points and Matt Knowling scored 17 and Yale had 10 players enter the scoring column in a 96-69 beatdown of Cornell on Saturday.

Cornell led for just 18 seconds.

The game served as the Bulldogs’ (7-8, 0-1) Ivy League opener following COVID-19 related postponeme­nts against Columbia, Dartmouth and Harvard. It was Yale’s first win since Dec. 7.

Sarju Patel scored 11 points for the Big Red (9-6, 1-3), Sean Hansen scored 11 off the bench and Chris Manon scored 10.

The Big Red now have lost three straight and four of their last five.

Albertus Magnus 87, Emmanuel 82: At Boston, Tyreek Perkins scored a team-high 18 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as the Falcons picked up a GNAC win.

Terry Dawkins added a double-double for Albertus (6-3, 4-1 GNAC) with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Emmanuel fell to 9-4 (5-2 GNAC).

New Haven 74, Stonehill 70: Tavin Philippe Pierre had a career-high 22 points and Davontrey Thomas added 18 to lead the Chargers to a Northeast-10 Conference win in West Haven.

Derrick Rowland added 11 points and five assists for the Chargers (9-5, 5-4). Owen Chose had 23 points and Andrw Sims added 21 for the Skyhawks (9-6, 5-4).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Emmanuel 72, Albertus Magnus 60: Loredana ‘Agostino led four Saints players in double figures with 14 points and added 12 rebounds in Emmanuel’s GNAC victory in Boston.

Jakara Murray-Leach led Albertus Magnus with 18 points and Diamond White of Hamden added 15.

Iona 52, Quinnipiac 47: Juana Camilion and Olivia Vezaldenos had 14 points each to lead Iona to a MAAC win in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Ketsia Athias added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels. Mackenzie DeWees led the Bobcats with 14 points and Mikala Morris added 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Stonehill 64, New Haven 61: Kayla Raymond posted a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds to lead Stonehill to an NE-10 win in West Haven.

Jada Thornton added 17 points for Stonehill (5-5, 4-4). Camryn Debose had 24 points and Kameryn King added 11 for the Chargers (5-7, 0-6).

Yale 62, Cornell 44: Alex Cade had 14 points and five rebounds and Jenna Clark added a careerhigh 11 assists and six points to lead the Bulldogs to their Ivy League win in Ithaca, Nw York. Yale outscored Cornell 17-5 in the first quarter to take early control of the game. Samantha Will led Cornell with 14 points.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

No. 10 Harvard 3 No. 8 Yale 1: At Boston, Charlotte Welch scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs in an ECAC loss.

Gianna Meloni finished with 14 saves for Yale (114-1, 6-3-1 ECAC).
