City plans youth safety day

MIDDLETOWN — The city will be hosting a Middletown Kids Health & Safety Day May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Main Street, between Court and College streets. Free parking will be available in all city lots. Activities will include a bicycle safety rodeo, chance to meet UConn and WNBA champion Morgan Tack, bounce houses, music and a DJ, art projects and free car seat clinic. There will also be health-related informatio­n booths.

‘Buckets of Love’ art

MIDDLETOWN — Artists For World Peace will hold its third annual “Buckets of Love” art activity May 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the South Green on Main Street. There will be live painting, African dance and drumming, healthy snacks and face painting. Afterward, children will be given a bucket full of art supplies. The rain date is May 21. Golf tourney sold out

MIDDLETOWN — The Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce golf tournament is sold out for the 39th year in a row. It will be held May 26 at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefiel­d.

Nature hike

MIDDLETOWN — Beth Lapin will host a hike at the Guida Farms Conservati­on Area Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in associatio­n with Middletown’s Recreation Division and Screen-Free Week. Attendees will explore the 100-acre area protected by the city and Middlesex Land Trust. It offers wooded areas, open fields and small ponds. Trails include slight uphills and could be wet in some areas. Masks are required for the unvaccinat­ed. People should wear hiking shoes, bring a snack and water. MIDDLETOWN — Middletown Adult Education is offering a free online GED program to prepare students for the exam. Free online high school completion classes are also offered for those wanting to earn a diploma. Registrati­on is ongoing for area residents by calling 860-343-6044.
