Louis “Terry” Mink February 19, 2023
Louis “Terry” Mink, III passed away on February 19, 2023 in Yuma, Arizona, his home since 2015.
A son of Connecticut, Terry was born on February 14, 1950 in New Haven and raised in Middletown, where he graduated from Middletown High School. He returned there after serving in the Army during the Vietnam War (Okinawa, Walter Reed Hospital) and received his Master of Social Work from Florida State University. After working as a social worker for the Connecticut State psychiatric services for a number of years, Terry shifted careers to work as a personal financial advisor, first with IDS and then Ameriprise. He subsequently established the Mink Money-Path Group based in Middletown which he ran until 2009, when he sought another direction in his life’s journey and eventually moved west.
He was the first-born of Louis O. Mink, Jr., a professor at Wesleyan, and Helen Patterson Mink, a social worker and homemaker. Terry is survived by his children, Jeremy (Leah) of San Diego and Jessica of San Diego; sister, Sarah of
New Bedford, MA; brother, Stephen (Erica) of Washington, DC; and three nieces. His marriage in 1990 to Nina Brown (deceased) ended in divorce.
Terry loved jazz, tennis, cats, Facebook rants, self-help disciplines, odd acts of kindness, yoga, and Arizona desert sunrises. A life-long and restless seeker of a better self, Terry could throw himself completely into new enthusiasms, yet in his final years found a calm and simplicity that he also cherished.
Contributions in Terry’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of Yuma, https://www.hsoyuma.com/ donate-in-memory.html . A private memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
