-

Shaun Michael Parmelee Sr., 51, died unexpectedly on March 11th after suffering a stroke. He was born on July 28, 1971, in Hartford, CT. He grew up in Middletown, CT with a love of building and constructing - whether it was with Lego bricks or pieces of wood - that made his career as an electrician inevitable. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 35 and was employed by McPhee Electric for 28 years where he was a mentor to many and a friend to all. Shaun always made a lasting impression with his dry wit, easy laugh, and mischievous smile.

He was an accomplished athlete and an avid sports fan. He excelled at varsity soccer during his years at Xavier High School, Middletown CT. From an early age he loved dirt bikes. Whether that was fixing or riding them, which ultimately led to his love for motocross. He raced competitively for years, regularly placing in the top three in his age group at events throughout New England. As an avid sports fan, motocross, the NFL and soccer were at the top of his list.

Shaun was many things: funny, generous, thoughtful, and kind, but above all, he was a devoted family man. Shaun married the love of his life Heather Mabey-Parmelee on March 23, 1991, and together they raised their three sons. Shaun leaves behind his wife Heather Mabey-Parmelee, who was his high school sweetheart, and despite the odds succeeded in love and life. They would’ve celebrated 32 years of marriage this month and 37 years together. Shaun’s greatest accomplishments were his children Shaun Jr. and Christina, Tyler and Megan, Ryan, and Dexter; his two granddaughters Madelyn and Peyton along with his excitement for his newest addition, a granddaughter from Tyler and Meg, whose projected due date is on Shaun’s birthday. He is also survived by his parents Craig and Sheila, and his brothers and their spouses, Craig and Jen and Jim and Holly. Shaun also had a very special relationship with Heathers’ family and was a son, brother, uncle, and God parent. He is predeceased by his motherin-law Dawn Mabey and his father-in-law Frank Mabey.

Shaun was always there to lend a hand to a friend or family member in need and he will be greatly missed. Visitation services will be held on March 24th from 3-6 pm at Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home in Colchester, CT. A funeral for close family and friends will be held on March 25th.
