to the run of so-called “crash-and-grab” thefts of ATMs across the country, which have been mirrored in Connecticu­t. The thieves have been using vehicles to pull the machines from their bases. They are not always successful, but there have been recent incidents in Manchester, Vernon, Milford, East Granby and Wallingfor­d. Such crimes have been on the rise since the pandemic, but the thieves might want to keep in mind that the devices often have tracking devices.

to the career of Newtown Monsignor Robert Weiss, who has retired as pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church. Weiss was bid farewell by 260 children from St. Lima’s school as part of a community tribute to his career. Under diocesan rules, Weiss would have retired when he turned 75 two years ago, but his term was extended so he would be able to mark the 10th anniversar­y of the Sandy Hook tragedy. Weiss was one of the key spiritual leaders who helped the community heal in the wake of the killing of 20 children and six educators in 2012.

to two figure skaters with Connecticu­t ties receiving belated gold medals from the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Zach Donahue and Nathan Chen are members of the team that will rise to gold following the disqualifi­cation of Russia’s Kamila Valieva for doping. Chen is attending Yale, while Donahue is a native of Madison. It may not be the same as accepting the medals at a podium during the Winter Games, but a ceremony will take place for the ice skaters.

to the University of Connecticu­t men’s basketball team retiring Richard Hamilton’s No. 32. Hamilton was a leader on UConn’s first national championsh­ip team (1998-99) and is the secondlead­ing scorer in school history. The ceremony is to be held during halftime of the Huskies’ game against Villanova on Feb. 24. Hamilton’s 2,036 points were recorded in just three seasons, before he left for the NBA.
