attorney’s office says two Pottstown police officers responded to the residence shortly before 8:30 p.m. Friday and announced their presence at the storm door to the residence.
Prosecutors say they heard “noise and commotion” from the second floor and, fearing someone was being assaulted, entered the residence. Neighbors reported hearing officers order someone to drop a gun, then heard multiple shots.
Prosecutors say the man was struck and fell to the living room floor. Officers rendered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and took the man to Pottstown Memorial Medical
Center, where he was pronounced dead. No injuries to anyone else were reported.
Prosecutors say the man was identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Lee Adams, who lived at the home with his girlfriend. Prosecutors say a 9 mm handgun registered to the woman was recovered by the body of Adams, who wasn’t legally allowed to possess a firearm.
An autopsy and toxicology tests were scheduled for Sunday. County detectives are investigating, as is standard procedure for shootings involving police officers.
