We must also focus on climate change
It is more important than ever to stay informed as citizens — and to ensure that our elected officials advocate for our concerns. While issues such as the pandemic, recession and racial injustice have dominated our attention, we must not lose sight of another important issue — climate change.
As a recent graduate of Muhlenberg College, I am concerned that our policies and elected officials have not often enough prioritized longterm concerns about our well-being and environment, and they have not often enough heeded the advice of experts in fields such as public health and climate science, leaving us unprepared for the complex challenges we face, such as the pandemic.
I recently joined PennEnvironment’s virtual Climate Action Lobby Day. I learned about important efforts related to our climate that directly impact my present and my (hopefully even better) future.
I want to thank state Rep. Mike Schlossberg for his expressed concerns about climate change and its impact on young people’s mental health, and I encourage state Sen. Pat Browne and Rep. Gary Day to support the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and other efforts to build a cleaner future.
