Nicole Levandusky, Palmerton

-

In a basketball-rich Palmerton community, Bill and Bob Mlkvy are considered the biggest Blue Bombers legends. But Levandusky, a 1997 graduate, outscored both Mlkvys with a school-record 2,662 points.

She helped Palmerton win a District 11 title and two Colonial League championships before going on to a stellar career at Xavier, where she scored 1,755 points. Levandusky was a fourtime first-team all-league selection (Centennial League in 1994; Colonial League from 1995-97) and a three-time league MVP.

During her career, Palmerton went 101-19 and set a school record for wins in a season with 31 in 1996-97 when the team made the state semis. The Blue Bombers were 57-3 in the Colonial League over the last three years of Levandusky’s career.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach a girl like Nicole,” Palmerton coach Rodney Strohl said. “That run we had her senior year when we won our first 31 games before losing to Trinity in the Eastern finals was something I’ll never forget.”

She was also a record-setting catcher on the Palmerton softball team and an all-star in field hockey.

At Xavier, Levandusky holds the school record for 3-pointers (287) and steals (364). As a senior she averaged 18.7 points per game and helped the team go 31-3.

She ended her basketball career playing for the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA and has been inducted into the Carbon County, Lehigh Valley Basketball and District 11 Halls of Fame as well as the Xavier and Greater Cincinnati Basketball Halls of Fame.
