Attempted homicide charged in holdup

AnAllentow­nmanisfaci­ngattempte­d homicide and other charges after police say he fired twice at a manheattem­pted to rob in Emmausearl­y Friday morning.

Chad Frankenfie­ld, 49, of the 900 block of North 20th Street in Allentown, is charged with attempted homicide, attempted aggravated assault, attempted robbery and illegal gun possession, all felonies, along with theft, receiving stolen property and marijuana possession. He was arraigned before District Judge Michael D’Amore and sent to Lehigh County Jail without bail.

Police responded at 4:56 a.m. to the 700 block of Broad Street, where a man told officers he was sitting in his vehicle outside his workplace when he was approached by an armed man, whotold him to get out and hand over his wallet. . The two men got into a fight and a shot was fired, shattering the vehicle’s passenger-side window.

The victim got his gun from the vehicle and chased the man who fired at him west along Broad Street, according to court documents. Police said the would-be robber fired another shot as he ran out of sight.

Police found a bullet in the vehicle and a fragment on the sidewalk nearby.

A couple of hours later, at 7:30 a.m., police spotted Frankenfie­ld riding a bicycle in the 800 block of Broad Street and stopped him because he matched the victim’s descriptio­n of the suspect. Police said the victim identified Frankenfie­ld as the man who shot at him. Police said the bike Frankenfie­ld was riding was found to be stolen.
