Sheetz’s change policy is unfair to customers

-

I protest in the strongest possible terms the Sheetz convenience store chain’s refusal to provide change to customers when they make a purchase.

Store management “suggests” customers either use a credit/debit card or pay with exact change. If they cannot do this, the store will “round up” the total to the next whole dollar, or to whatever change they have.

Sheetz says the excess goes to charity. Regardless of what it is called, Sheetz is charging customers more than the total price. If this is not illegal, it should be.

Sheetz justifies this practice by blaming “the nationwide coin shortage.”

I find it telling that Sheetz is the only merchant I have encountered that engages in this practice.

Other fast food chains, including (to name a few), Burger King, Dunkin’, McDonald’s and Wawa, seem to be unaffected by this coin shortage.
