Paid Juneteenth holiday proposed

Lehigh County commissioners gave a first reading of a bill that adds Juneteenth, June 19, as a paid holiday to the personnel policies and procedure manual, starting in 2021. The bill is sponsored by board Chairwoman Amy Zanelli, and commissioners Zakiya Smalls, Marc Grammes and Geoff Brace.

What’s next: A formal vote could take place at their Dec. 9 meeting.
