S. Lehigh scout earns Eagle rank

-

William G. Scharf received the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held in October. He is a member of Troop 191, Center Valley, and has been a scout for eight years, earning 24 merit badges. William has served as assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, chaplain’s aide and troop guide and received the Ad Altare Dei Roman Catholic religious award.

For his Eagle project, he led a trail restoration project benefiting the Wildlands Conservancy in Emmaus. The project took 171 hours with 24 Scouts and adults helping. They removed Siebold viburnum, an invasive plant that was widespread along the Pheasant Run Trail. Native trees and plants, secured through donations, were then planted. The result is a healthier ecosystem for vegetation and animals.

A son of Gregory and Colleen Scharf of Center Valley, William is a senior at Southern Lehigh High School, where he is also a member of the soccer team, Angel 34 and student council. William will be attending college and majoring in earth sciences.
