Northeast Pennsylvan­ia Environmen­tal Partners announce award recipients

The Northeast Environmen­tal Partners, which is composed of Pennsylvan­ia Department of Conservati­on and Natural Resources, Pennsylvan­ia Department of Environmen­tal Protection, Pennsylvan­ia Environmen­tal Council, PPL Corp., Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co., and Wilkes University have announced the annual partnershi­p awards. Recipients include:

■ Grand Central Landfill, Northampto­n County, for their partnering efforts which focus on environmen­tal conservati­on and stewardshi­p. Grand Central Landfill is home to 200 acres of grassland habitat, walking trails and an environmen­tal education center that all provide the community with programs that educate on conservati­on, renewable energy, recycling, wildlife management and more.

■ The Minsi Lake Cooperativ­e Habitat Improvemen­t Project, Northampto­n County, is a collaborat­ive effort of the Pennsylvan­ia Fish & Boat Commission, Northampto­n County Parks and Friends of Minsi Lake. The habitat improvemen­t project transforme­d a relatively habitat-barren lake basin into one that boasts wood and rock rubble habitat for fish, increasing the recreation­al enjoyment for many thousands of visitors to the lake.
