Emmaus field hockey coach deserves accolades

-

As a parent of a former Emmaus High field hockey player, I would like to add to the fine articles about coach Sue Butz-Stavin that appeared in The Morning Call.

Our daughter is one of hundreds of young women who have been mentored by Coach ButzStavin. Sue has the ability to get the most from her players. And along with that comes demanding the commitment to doing your best and buying into the team traditions that have evolved throughout her tenure.

I was a varsity high school coach for 32 years, and I was quick to observe Sue’s attention to detail in her coaching. Having knowledge of a sport is only as valuable as a coach’s ability to teach the skills necessary to play it.

Why are Emmaus girls so successful in field hockey? Three reasons: (1) coaching (2) coaching and (3) coaching.

But the best part is her program prepares these girls for the demands of life. The varied career successes of Emmaus field hockey alumni is quite a list. It is a sorority that all of them should be proud to represent.

So, congratulations from one high school coach to the greatest high school coach I have ever known.
