Pa. has record number in hospitals

Pennsylvan­ia reported 11,084 additional cases of the coronaviru­s andarecord 5,940 COVID-19 hospitaliz­ations on Saturday.

To date, there have been 481,118 cases statewide.

The state reported 201 new deaths, compared with 225 Friday. That brings the total to 12,436. Outoftotal deaths, 7,451 were residents of nursing or personal care facilities. In the Lehigh Valley, there were four new deaths (one in Lehigh County, three in Northampto­n County), compared with 11 the day before, bringing the total to 783.

On Saturday afternoon, 5,940 people were hospitaliz­ed, compared with 5,668 the day before. Of those, 1,209 people were in intensive care units, compared with 1,151 Friday.

The trend in the 14-day moving average of number of hospitaliz­ed patients per day has increased by over 4,700 since the end of September.

Thestatewi­de percent positivity for the week of Dec. 4-11 stood at 16.2%.

There were 24,258 people tested, with a positive rate of 35.1%. Thecumulat­ive positive test rate is now at 12.7%.

There were 513 new cases in the Lehigh Valley (270 in Lehigh County, 243 in Northampto­n County), compared with 563 the day before. That brings the total to 27,099.
