QB Bowens enters transfer portal

Penn State quarterback Micah Bowens is planning to play elsewhere in 2021.

247Sports and Rivals reported Friday that the Las Vegas, Nevada, native and former three-star recruit has entered the NCAA transfer portal after just one redshirt season in State College.

Bowens was the low man on the totem pole in new offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Mike Yurcich’s position room, as he was behind Sean Clifford, Will Levis, and TaQuan Roberson.

“Micah is a guy we identified very early on as a dynamic playmaker coming from a big-time high school program,” Penn State head coach James Franklin said on signing day last year. “Also, very impressed with his maturity. It’s amazing how many redeyes he jumped on by himself to fly all the way across the country to come to camp, compete in games or whatever it is.

“Pretty impressive as a high school-aged student. Can make plays with his feet, can make plays with his arm, can make plays with his mind.”

The youngest quarterback in the room now will be Christian Veilleux, a threestar Class of 2021 passer from Maryland by way of Ottawa, Canada. He is one of seven players set to enroll for the start of the spring semester next week.

Penn State has picked up four players from the portal so far while losing corner Trent Gordon, guard CJ Thorpe, and defensive tackles Antonio Shelton and Judge Culpepper to it since the 2020 season ended.
