Jacobsburg park offering spring programs

Jacobsburg Environmen­tal Education Center, 400 Belfast Road, Bushkill Township, is offering the following community programs:

Intensive Art Workshop for Teens will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays April 12 through May 24. Learn different forms of fiber art from artist in residency Mallory Zondag. The processes will focus on wool felting and natural dying. Participan­ts will take part in environmen­tal lessons, led by center educators, designed to inform and inspire their art. The resulting artwork will be a unique cavity nest for wild birds to be displayed outdoors at a public reception. This workshop is free for teens ages 13-18 and attendance is required at all 12 sessions. Sessions will be held outdoors and may be reschedule­d in response to weather and changing COVID-19 guidelines.

Basic Boating Course: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 17. The state Fish & Boat Commission’s Basic Boating Course was developed to supply boaters with practical informatio­n, so they can make better informed decisions on the water. Instructor­s provide students with informatio­n to help them reduce the risk of injury and conflict on the water. Students who successful­ly complete this course may apply for a Boating Safety Education Certificat­e issued by the Commission. This course will be held indoors and will only take place if there is a change in the current COVID-19 guidelines. For informatio­n, call Andy Desko at 215-968-3631.

Future Master Watershed Steward Camp will be held 9 a.m. to noon June15-18. Youth ages1 3-18 will learn about the environmen­t, water resources management, and complete a stream side service project along the Bush kill Creek. Youth will participat­e in science-based activities that focus on local watersheds and waterways with plenty of opportunit­ies to get hands-on and participat­e in field investigat­ions. Upon completion of the program, participan­ts will receive a certificat­e and are eligible for two hours of service toward high school community service requiremen­ts. This free program will be held outdoors and will only take place if there is a change in the current COVID-19 guidelines.
