Former Saucon Valley star Diggs takes third in 400M finals
Former Saucon Valley High School track star Talitha Diggs placed third in the 400-meter finals Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Diggs, a freshman at Florida, secured a final-round berth Friday with a time of 51.91 seconds in the prelims. She was seeded No. 2 in the event after being crowned SEC champion two weeks ago. Diggs clocked a time of 51.14 seconds to become the second-fastest 400-meter runner in Gators history.
In Saturday’s race, Diggs took first place in her section with a 51.26, but the Section 2 field put in faster times. Kaelin Roberts, a senior from USC, took first place with her personal best time of 50.84. Athing Mu, a freshman at Texas A&M, placed second with a 51.03.
Diggs is also a member of Florida’s 4x400 relay team, which ran in the finals later Saturday.
The Gators were in fifth place in the team standings. Florida has 27 points with 14 of 17 events scored. Texas A&M leads with 47 points.
In the men’s competition, Pitt’s Greg Lauray, a senior from Notre Dame-Green Pond, qualified for the high jump but failed to make height in the finals on Friday morning.
Overall, Oregon had a men’s championship to remember, finishing with 79 points and running away with the title.
Here’s all the events the Ducks won: Cole Hocker in the 3000M, Charlie Hunter in the 800M, Micah Williams in the 60M, Cole Hocker in the 1 mile, Emmanuel Ihemeje in the triple jump.
It’s the fifth indoor team title for Oregon and fourth under head coach Robert Johnson.
