Spring programs at Jacobsburg park
Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, 400 Belfast Road, Bushkill Township, will offer the following programs:
Weekly Weeders, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Thursdays, April 8, 15, and 22. Learn more about gardening with native plants. Volunteer to work alongside our education staff as they mulch, pull weeds, divide plants, and amend soil in the center’s native plant garden. Instruction, tools, and weeding mats are provided. Register all members of your party as space for this program is limited to four attendees total each day.
Signs of Spring Hike, 3-5 p.m. April 10. Search for wildflowers, new plant growth, migrating birds and other signs of spring. Be prepared for a moderate hike that may involve muddy slopes and uphill climbs. Bring binoculars, a camera, water and a snack, and wear sturdy shoes. Registrants will be contacted with the meeting location prior to the event. Registration limited to 15 attendees total.
Celestial Wildlife, 7:30-9:30 p.m. April 10. Did you know that the night sky is filled with all sorts of wildlife? Join us for this nighttime adventure as we use our imagination and search the sky for bears, lions, dogs, bulls and even dragons. Dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a blanket to sit on, a flashlight (with a red filter if available), water, a snack, and binoculars. This program is best for families with children ages 8 and up. Registrants will be contacted with the meeting location prior to the event. Registration limited to 15 attendees total.
Family Night: Frog Find and Salameander, 6-7:30 p.m. April 16. Spring is here and our amphibian neighbors are springing out of the ground. Learn what amphibians are and what they’ve been doing all winter. Go on a 2 mile walk to look for frogs and salamanders just before sunset. Bring a flashlight and wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and muddy. Registration limited to 15 attendees total.
Registration required for all programs. All participants over the age of 2 are required to wear a mask. All participants are required to maintain a safe social distance.
