Catherine "Kay" Anfuso

Catherine "Kay" A. Anfuso (nee Durling), 75, made her peaceful transition home to our Heavenly Father on November 25, 2021. Her presence here on earth has been marked with a generous, unselfish spirit for all, a heart that just never stopped loving and caring for other people and a profound devotion to our Blessed Virgin Mary and the Catholic faith. Catherine was born August 3, 1946, in Pottsville, Pennsylvan­ia to the late "Kitty" Ferryman and raised by the late Samuel and Rita "Pearl" Wesner of the southward of Tamaqua. She had many fond memories of growing up in such a family-orientated, small town and often bragged about being a coal region girl. She graduated from Marian Catholic High School (Tamaqua) in 1964 and attended college at Holy Family University in Philadelph­ia. By the age 18, Catherine was a Catholic

school teacher, instructin­g elementary school children in the faith throughout the Archdioces­e of Philadelph­ia and the Diocese of Allentown. May 1, 1971, Catherine married Joseph P. Anfuso Jr. of Allentown and settled in Bethlehem. She continued to teach until the arrival of her first-born the following year, when she made

the decision to become a stay-at-home mother. Her generosity did not stop there, as she opened her home to many foster children and provided them with the warmth and security that they simply did not have.

There simply was no limit to her outpouring of generosity. From 1995-2009, Catherine and Joseph opened their home to people with both intellectu­al and physical disabiliti­es, providing them with a safe haven to flourish comfortabl­y. It was in her nature to always care for others. Catherine was an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic parish in East Allentown, teaching religious education courses to students preparing to receive their sacraments. She also actively served as an Eucharisti­c Minister, a lector and an altar server. In her spare time, she enjoyed the Wind Creek Casino and her German Shepherd puppy, Jake. Catherine is survived by her husband, Joseph of 50 years. Daughters: Mary Beth Horner (Tom); Cathleen Applegate (Ron); Michele G. Anfuso. Son: Eric Anfuso. Grandchild­ren: Thomas Horner, Sean Moroney, Caitlin Moroney, Isabella Applegate, Elisabeth, Emily and Olivia Horner. Greatgrand­daughter: Cateri. Kay was predecease­d by her brother Philip Durling and great-granddaugh­ter Aubrey Wade. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 30, 2021 at 11:00AM in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. Calling Hours will be from 9:00-10:40AM in the O'Donnell Funeral Home. 908
