Master Watershed Steward program accepting applicatio­ns

The Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward program is now accepting applicatio­ns for the spring 2022 training program. Join us virtually at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 or Jan. 13 for informatio­n about the Monroe County program and to learn more about how you can partake in this exciting opportunit­y. The program provides extensive coursework in water and natural resources with ongoing volunteer and educationa­l opportunit­ies that allow participan­ts to make a difference in their communitie­s. The program is seeking individual­s who enjoy learning, have the desire and time to volunteer and appreciate working with others. This spring’s training will be held virtually via Zoom on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. starting March 10 and ending in mid June. Optional in-person field trips will be scheduled locally with COVID-19 safety measures in place.

In addition to 40 hours of classroom instructio­n, candidates must agree to perform 50 hours of volunteer service their first year, followed by 20 hours per year thereafter. Activities include organizing educationa­l events, designing demonstrat­ion rain gardens, organizing stream cleanups, planting riparian forest buffers, monitoring streams and more.
