Elsie Y. Evans

-

With sadness, love, and gratitude, the family of Elsie Yelenics Evans announces her passing on March 26, 2022, in Towson, MD.

Elsie was 92 years old and beloved for her kind, gentle, gracious spirit. Daughter of Stephen and Helen Yelenics, Elsie grew up in their home above their corner grocery store on Mechanic Street in Bethlehem, PA, with her sister Clara. A graduate of Moravian College (1949), Elsie married William C. Evans on April 1, 1950, causing humorous speculation over time as to the actual fact of the marriage.

Elsie worked outside the home until she and Bill moved to NJ in the first of seven DuPont transfers, including to the Netherlands. Elsie became the consummate executive's wife and dedicated her wisdom and talents (knitting, cooking,

sewing, naturalist) to raising and inspiring their three daughters. Elsie was greatly loved by her grandchildren and a dear friend to many. She and Bill retired to Fort Myers, FL, joining sister Clara (d.2009) and Bill (d.2020) Knipe and their

family. When her beloved Bill died (2011), Elsie moved near her daughter in Baltimore, MD. An active volunteer, Elsie received presidential recognition for knitting preemie hats and toys for children in need.

Elsie is survived by her daughters Judi Evans, Barbara Hipple (Matt Campbell), Kathy (Don) Vecchioni, and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hipple, Abbey Hipple, Alex Vecchioni, and

Claire Vecchioni. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, in the mountains where

Elsie loved to gather with family. In lieu of

flowers, donations would be welcome to By Their Side, 7215 York Road, Suite 352, Baltimore, MD 21212. Bytheirside.org
