The Bel Canto Youth Chorus of The Bach Choir of Bethlehem opportunities
The Bel Canto Youth Chorus of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem brings a summer of music to youth in the Lehigh Valley. Summer Sing, the Annual Audition Interview, and Choral Village offer young singers a unique experience of performance, music enrichment, and building a community.
Summer Sing celebrates contemporary African American composers. This event offers Lehigh Valley High School singers an opportunity to perform in a special concert with The Bel Canto Youth Chorus, the Choir School of Delaware, The Children’s Chorus of Washington, the Commonwealth Youth Chorus, and the incomparable Gospel Choir of the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas in Philadelphia. Open to high school aged singers, this opportunity requires a five-rehearsal commitment on thursday evenings from May 19-June 16, and availability on June 20-21 for daytime performances. The Annual Audition Interviews for The Bel Canto Youth Chorus begin May 23 for a position in the 2022-2023 30th Anniversary Choir. Singers will not need to prepare a piece for this interview. Singers will introduce themselves, sing several scales and a familiar song, and complete several musical challenges designed to assess the current level of musical ability. 2022 Choral Village explores the expressive foundations of African American music in the United States, connecting traditional spirituals to Civil Rights Anthems and to the music of today. Choral Village provides an opportunity for young people throughout the Lehigh Valley to participate in music-making, community building, drumming, improvising, and creating. Bel Canto welcomes performers Camille Armstrong and Mo Jerant as our guest clinicians. Open to youth entering grades 6 through 9, Choral Village meets daily 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. July 25-July 29. Tuition is $200 for the week, including lunch. Limited needbased scholarships are available.
