Louis M. Molnar

-

Louis M. Molnar, 93, of Upper Saucon Township, died May

19, 2022. He was the husband of Sally B. (Robert) Campbell, with whom he celebrated 30 years of marriage in December, 2021. Born in Emmaus, he was the son of the late Louis S. and Anna (Fedorisko) Molnar. He was predeceased by wife Patricia Louise (Melloy) Molnar.

Lou was a Lehigh Valley resident all his life, graduating from Liberty High School in 1947, and from Moravian College (now university) in 1951. He later completed a Masters in Education from Lehigh University. He was always an educator, first

teaching at Notre Dame Green Pond and then at Liberty High School. As an Assistant Principal, he helped open Freedom High School. He then went to the Bethlehem Area School District office as Director of Pupil Personnel Services, where he served for many years. In that role, he was responsible for transportation, food service, medical and dental services, and at times, maintenance, and data. A creative problem solver, he helped bring the BASD

into the computer age with computerized bus routes and student class schedules; he was also

instrumental in devising the district's first AIDs p o l i c y.

Lou proudly served his country in the Korean War. He joined the army immediately after graduating from Moravian, and then graduated from the Engineer OCS at Fort Leonard Wood, MI. He spent the remainder of his service in Korea,

part of the time as the Depot Commander. He later rejoined the Army as a reservist.

Lou was a superb athlete all his life, engaging in football, track and baseball at Liberty, and then football and baseball at Moravian. After he retired from the BASD in 1993, he kept that athletic focus by becoming a ski instructor at Jack Frost Mountain. He also had a storied coaching career at Notre Dame, where he coached the 1961 football team to a tie with Liberty High School, four times the size of Notre Dame,

and to Notre Dame's first and only undefeated season in 1963. He also coached track and golf; but he was always most proud of the collegiate scholarships his players earned.

Among multiple hobbies, travel brought Lou great joy and he went on many trips with the family Irish Setters to National Specialties all over the country. Cruises also became part of his life in retirement: Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, the Baltic Sea, no area was off limits. A lover of the outdoors, he spent hours in retirement working on the lawn and gardens at home and attending

flower shows. He loved music, and for years enjoyed the concert series of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the musicals at Moravian and the PA Shakespeare Festival, and the concerts and festivals of the Bethlehem Bach Choir, where he served on the house staff. He also loved the Jersey shore, where he spent many weekends at his second home, fixing and solving all those

issues that sea breezes bring. Finally, Lou was active in the Moravian University Alumni organization where he represented his 1951 class, and helped organize special events involving multiple alumni groups.

Surviving with his wife, Sally, are a daughter Carrieann Scheetz, and her husband Peter of Whitehall; and a son Michael L. Molnar of Rodondo Beach, CA.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, in First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Moravian University Scholarship Fund, c/o Moravian University, 1200 Main Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. Online condolences may be sent to www.pearsonfh.com.
