EAGLE SCOUT AWARD

Jonah Colin Harley received the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held May 14 at Christ Lutheran Church of Hellertown.

Harley began scouting in the first grade as a Tiger Cub with Pack 349 of Hellertown, sponsored by Christ Lutheran Church of Hellertown. He later transferre­d to Pack 333 of Center Valley, where he continued to earn all the Cub Scout ranks, including the highest award available in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light.

While in fifth grade Harley bridged over to Boy Scout Troop 191 of Center Valley, sponsored by Friedens Evangelica­l Lutheran Church. On his path to Eagle he held the position of Den Chief, earned 21 merit badges and became a member of the Boy Scouts of America’s Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle service project Harley removed overgrown shrubbery, designed and installed a perennial garden at the Southern Lehigh Community Pool, Coopersbur­g. In addition, Harley constructe­d two child-sized picnic benches to be used in the children’s swimming area of the pool.

The landscapin­g was competed with the donations and assistance of Ross Post of Schochary Ridge Nursery in New Tripoli, Brian Hartman and a team of Troop 191 scouts. The picnic bench constructi­on was completed with the assistance of Hartman, Ravisher Sidhu and a team of scouts from Troop 191. The entire project involved 125 work hours.

Harley is the son of Dr. Sharon and Mr. Colin Harley of Bethlehem. He is a a senior at Southern Lehigh High School. Harley is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Chess Club, the varsity cross country team and ice hockey team.

He has been a member of Southern Lehigh’s marching, concert and jazz bands and a member of the orchestra and pit orchestras for the school musicals. Harley has participat­ed in several PMEA band and orchestra festivals, including Pennsylvan­ia All-State Orchestra.

He has been a member of the Southern Lehigh High School Meistersin­gers and was recently in the cast of the school’s musical production of “Bye Bye Birdie.” Harley has been a member of the Philadelph­ia Young Artist’s Orchestra for two years and also plays special music for his church services at Christ Lutheran Church of Hellertown.

After graduation Harley plans to attend a four-year college to study cello performanc­e and biology.
