William (Bill) Long
William “Bill” Long, 65, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2023, after bravely fighting cholangiocarcinoma for five years. Dale Chambliss Long, his loving wife of 34 years, was at his side. Bill was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to the late Melvin and Anna Long and grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania with his brother, sister and a large extended family.
Bill graduated from William Allen High School, then attended Penn State University, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity. After graduation in 1979, Bill began his long and successful career in IT Services with Electronic Data Systems (EDS).
Bill enjoyed watching Penn State football, playing golf with his group of golf friends, reading the Wall Street Journal, creating Excel spreadsheets (for any and every reason) and discovering new recipes. He and Dale enjoyed traveling, trying new restaurants, cooking together and spending time at Lake Cypress Springs, Texas. Bill's most recent passion was as “creative director” of their Instagram account, @newttherescuedog, for their adored dog,
Newt. Most of all he will be remembered for his wit and humor, for his endless stories, and for his love of his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Dale, Bill is survived by brother Robert Long; sister Dianne and her husband, Douglas Hand of Allentown; Aunt Annetta Long Cheek and her husband Charles (Hume, Virginia); brother-in-law John Chambliss and his wife, Joyce (Greensboro, North Carolina); and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend Celebration of Life receptions, which will be held in Dallas and Allentown.
