Peter J. Yanakis, 96, of Schnecksvi­lle, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Whitehall Manor, Whitehall Township. He was the husband of the late Mary (Kostandeli­s) Yanakis for over 66 years before her passing. Born in Union City, NJ in 1926, Peter was the son of the late James and Bella (Antonka) Yanakis. He built a home in Huntington NY where he and Mary raised their family. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with duties in The Philippine­s and Japan. His career was highlighte­d by over 35 years with ATT, and prior to that with RCA and American Airlines.

Peter was an avid fan of Greek festivals and would regularly schedule trips to align with festivals up and down the east coast. In his later years, he would look forward to Bethlehem's

St. Nicholas' Greek Orthodox Church festivals in spring and fall, with four days of “dining” on “yeeros” & dancing.

Survivors: Children, James Yanakis of Long Island, NY, Dean Yanakis of Florida, Eleni M. Katz (Jeff) of Schnecksvi­lle; grandchild­ren, Collin, Jackie, Dimitri, and Stavros.

Service: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Friday, August 11, 2023, at St. Nicholas

Greek Orthodox Church, 1607 West Union Blvd. Bethlehem. Viewing from 9:30 am. – 10:30 am Friday in the church. Interment with military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
