Ralph E. Seltzer

Ralph E. Seltzer of South Whitehall Township died at home on September 28, 2023. He was the husband of the late Nancy (Evancho) Seltzer. They were married on August 11, 1949. He was the son of the late Emerson B. Seltzer and Charlotte (Carls) Seltzer. He was born on October 23, 1924, in Winfield, Pennsylvan­ia. He graduated from Scott Township High School in Espy, PA, entered the U. S. Army in June, 1943, and was stationed in Texas at North Camp Hood and at Camp Howze, until being deployed to the European theatre with the 103rd Infantry Division in October, 1944. He was taken prisoner by the German Army on December 19, 1944. He was liberated by the Russian Army and returned to Allied custody in May, 1945.

In May, 1948 he graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College with a B. S. in Business Education. In 1953 he earned an M. A. in Education from Lehigh University. From 1948 until 1986 he was a business education teacher in the Parkland School District, where he also served as department head and director of the adult education program from 1958 to 1984. He also held the offices of treasurer, vice president and president of the Parkland Education Associatio­n. He also wrote instructio­nal workbooks on office machines and electronic calculator­s for use in schools.

He is survived by sons Daniel and wife Sharen of Eugene, Oregon, Gerard of Allentown, Matthew of Nazareth, and Timothy and wife Shaofang of Plano, Texas and grandchild­ren Laura of Eugene, Oregon, Emily of Millvale, Pennsylvan­ia and Adam of York, Pennsylvan­ia. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church since 1951.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 6th at St.

Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 825 N. 11th

St., Allentown. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 5th, from 6:00-7:30 PM at Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown, and from 9:30-10:00 AM Friday prior to mass at the church.
