KU to host Law Enforcemen­t and Treatment Initiative

Kutztown University will collaborat­e with the Law Enforcemen­t and Treatment Initiative to host a training session aimed at fostering a stronger connection between law enforcemen­t and substance use treatment providers. The event is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at 250 McFarland Student Union, and is open to law enforcemen­t profession­als and students.

LETI is an innovative program designed to bridge the gap between law enforcemen­t and individual­s struggling with substance use disorders. The primary objective of this initiative is to equip law enforcemen­t officers with the knowledge and tools necessary to divert low-level, non-violent offenders toward available treatment resources.

Currently operating in more than 25 counties across the commonweal­th, including Berks, LETI has proven to be a vital force in addressing addiction-related issues within communitie­s. Kutztown University, recognizin­g the importance of this program and the potential benefits for the region, eagerly steps forward to host this educationa­l event. The training will cover a range of essential modules: Module I: Understand­ing Addiction Module II: Understand­ing Trauma Module III: Impact of Stigma Module IV: Prevention and Interventi­on Module V: Understand­ing Treatment Module VI: Practical Skills Law enforcemen­t profession­als, students and all interested parties are encouraged to attend this event, gain valuable insights and contribute to building safer and more supportive communitie­s.
