Juniata’s Engaging Academic Experience Prepares Students With Purpose
Juniata College’s campus is in the heart of Central Pennsylvania, and its community and impact span the globe. Students are empowered to develop the skills, knowledge, and values that lead to a fulfilling life of service and ethical leadership wherever life takes them.
Lessons in leadership begin as soon as students arrive on campus as they lead in designing their education. Juniata’s distinctive educational experience means students are never asked to choose a major—there are no majors. Instead, students work with their two faculty advisers to shape their Program of Emphasis or POE. The flexibility of the POE encourages students to pursue their unique interests and talents.
More than 90% of students actively engage with high-impact educational practices, including internships, study abroad, and undergraduate research. Through community-engaged learning, students learn to transform the conceptual knowledge acquired in the classroom into practical, real-world applications, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter and cultivating essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and empathy.
Cherished campus traditions celebrate the inimitable Juniata spirit—from Mountain Day, when classes are canceled for a day of fall fun spent on the banks of Raystown Lake, to Liberal Arts Symposium, a day set aside to celebrate the liberal arts and all that students have accomplished. These traditions, along with Lobsterfest, Storming of the Arch, Madrigal, and the Bailey Oratorical, connect Juniatians across generations.
Juniata is consistently ranked among the nation’s top colleges due to its unique educational approach, accessible faculty, and value. Facilities like Statton Learning Commons, which fosters modern teaching, collaborative learning, and scholarly innovation, and the Raystown Field Station, which provides one of the nation’s most distinctive opportunities in environmental science, create an atmosphere conducive to growth and exploration.
